September 2025 • 10 Books

I started my spooky season with 10 books that I felt were moooostly spooky (maybe not all of them but definitely most of them). But also one of my favorite books of the year was this month too!

Below is my breakdown as always, which includes my rating compared to Goodreads – and where to read. It’s also possible I earn commissions if you make any purchases from links below, and I thank you earnestly for doing so. It allows me to keep putting together these recaps for you!

Let’s get into this September reading breakdown:

Of Frost and Feather

📚 Book 2 in complete Flame Cursed Fae trilogy

🎧 Duet audiobook
⭐️ 4.04 on Goodreads

My Rating: ⭐️4.25 (my full review)
My thoughts: This trilogy is literally SUCH a fast read and so fun. I think this is the perfect palate cleanser especially after something maybe bigger/longer/heavier. It’s got an FMC who lived her whole life thinking she was going to die at any moment and then all the sudden gets picked by the gods to go do Valkyrie training.

And when I tell you this trilogy is a slow burn I MEAN IT IS A SLOW BURN. Which is something I love personally so I was in.

🎧 Duet audiobook
⭐️ 4.11 on Goodreads

My Rating: ⭐️4.25 – 4.5 (my full review)
My thoughts: This was the wrap-up to this trilogy and man oh man was it worth it. I mentioned in the book 2 thoughts that this was a proper slow burn and let me tell you what the payoff finally happened and it was a damn delight. But overall this is just a fun trilogy and if you want a quick read and an especially good duet audiobook.

A Bargain So Bloody

🔥 No spice… yet
⭐️ 3.95 on Goodreads

My Rating: ⭐️ 3.75 (my full review)
My thoughts: I absolutely loved how this started. She’s a prison for some mysterious reason and has been since she was a kid and then a vampire shows up out of nowhere. As the story goes he’s just a completely obsessed, flirty little bitch vampire and I fell in LOVE with him.

I thought this was going to be 5 stars but the farther we got the the less I liked the FMC because she just seemed not to read writing on the wall and we don’t really know why, which was frustrating for me. BUT the ending was interesting and if you’re not annoyed by a frustrating FMC, you’ll devour this!

Where to Read:

Bones

📚 Book 1 in incomplete 4-book Bones series

⭐️ 4.19 on Goodreads

My Rating: ⭐️ 4.25 (my full review)
My thoughts: This book is a massive character journey for the FMC Bones. She’s in a post-apocalyptic USA and has been FUCKING. THROUGH. IT.

The majority of this book is a character journey and then you get like 70% in and that’s when action/plot picks up. But this book just made you completely understand Bones and fall in love with her, even though she’s admittedly not kind because life hasn’t been kind to her. This is her journey of finding out what she deserves, wants, needs, and more. Please, please start this series with this book. You’ll probably cry though, heads up.

⭐️ 4.41 on Goodreads

My Rating: ⭐️ 5, probably 6 (my full review)
My thoughts: I cried 3x. No, for real. I so rarely cry when I read that for me to cry not once, not twice, but 3x is actually wild.

The world and plot both really expand in this book. You’ve got THE BEST found family ever, and you really and truly are just rooting for Bones in every way. I couldn’t have adored this book more, and if you want to feel feels, please read this story.

Eldritch

⭐️ 4.36 on Goodreads

My Rating: ⭐️ 4.5 (my full review)
My thoughts: I just love this trilogy so much. It’s dark, it’s gothic, it’s broody, it’s sexy, it’s everything. If you read Anathema and were like “wow I wish I knew more about Zevander” this is the book for you. It is more of a character journey than book 1, but don’t worry the plot gets moving too. But this is DARK, so be prepared to feel feels… like all of ’em.

🎧 Solo narration audiobook
⭐️ 4.04 on Goodreads

My Rating: ⭐️ 4.25 (my full review)
My thoughts: This is for the lovers of political romantasy. This book is literally about an election and meddling in it and it’s definitely a fun time. I really liked how unique this plot was overall, and the cast of characters is interesting. I enjoyed this read but I’m not OBSESSED with it.

⭐️ 4.20 on Goodreads

My Rating: ⭐️ 3.75 – 4 (my full review)
My thoughts: The plot expands beyond the singular election and things definitely get interesting. We meet new people and go new places and have new adversaries (some of which I hate so much so kudos to the author because that’s always fun to read).

But I’ve got to say there’s something about this series that I’m just not obsessed with. And it has all the pieces for me to love it, so maybe it’s a mood thing. And if you think you’d like it, don’t let me dissuade you because IT IS GOOD. I just am not as in love as I was hoping to be.

Grave Matter

⭐️ 3.94 on Goodreads

My Rating: ⭐️ 3.75 (my full review)
My thoughts: This had me abbbbsolutely turning pages to figure out what the mystery was, I was fiendish. The location and world building is so well done and you just feel and see every little thing. I couldn’t put this down.

That being said, the twist wasn’t what I wanted it to be. It wasn’t BAD, don’t get me wrong. It was good, but it had some holes. So it was definitely fun but not, to me, a flawlessly executed twist. But definitely still worth a read for spooky season!

Don’t Let the Forest In

📚 Standalone YA romantic fantasy/horror-ish?

⭐️ 3.94 on Goodreads

My Rating: ⭐️ 6 for me (my full review)
My thoughts: Guys. The writing in this is so beyond stunning I could barely breathe. I knew this was going to be a 5 star read by page 3. This gothic, spooky, YA dark academia mystery was literally everything I didn’t know I wanted.

The author is non-binary, the romance is queer, there’s a mystery afoot in both the MC’s closest friends but also at his school. There are actual solid twists I didn’t even see coming, and I ended this book and just wanted to reread it immediately. Loved loved loved.
