MAY WAS SUCH A GOOD READING MONTH HOLY SHIIIIIIT. Literally one of my favorite books I read this month and it was genuinely fulllll of bangers. Let’s get into ’em!

Below is my breakdown as always, which includes my rating, what I liked, and where to read. I also will earn commissions if you make any purchases from links below, and I thank you earnestly for doing so. It allows me to keep putting together these recaps for you!

Let’s get into this May reading breakdown:

Books 1 & 2 of the Remnants of Rage Series

📖 2 books out of 5 in the Remnants of Rage series
📚 Book 1 = Daughter of the Dead, book 2 = Raven of the Scorned
🐉 Romantic fantasy
❤️ No spice yet
☑️ On Kindle Unlimited

My Rating: both are ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟 4.75 (book 1 review & book 2 review)

My Thoughts: Y’all, this series is so underrated. I am obsessed with it. It’s unique AF, follows 3 different women who are all going through it in their own right, and just gets better as you go. I cannot wait for book 3 and more of this worldddd IT’S SO GOOD.

This book has: SLOWWWWWW burn, 3 FMCs, witches, unique magic, a plague-ish, political scheming, queer rep,

Fury Bound

📖 Book 2 in the incomplete Wolves of Ruin trilogy
🐉 Romantasy
❤️‍🔥 Spicy
🎧 Duet narrated audiobook
☑️ On Kindle Unlimited

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.25 stars (Goodreads wouldn’t let me leave a review?? it was weird and I don’t know why)

My Thoughts: This was def a fun follow-up to Dire Bound and I had a good ol’ time reading. It was fun exploring more of the world, having a new, clear enemy to hate, and a romance developing. Good times, good vibes. I didn’t LOVE the ending; it felt maybe a little too fast or anticlimactic? But I’m also wondering if because it’s book 2, we aren’t quite done yet.

This book has: direwolves, slow burn, gods, vampires, quests

The Isle in the Silver Sea

📘 Romantic historic fantasy standalone
🎧 Solo narrated audiobook
🌶️ Very minimal spice

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.25 (my full review)

My Thoughts: This was really beautifully written and I absolutely loved the story. It was VERY The Everlasting x Our Infinite Fates but make it sapphic and also feel completely unique from those two stories. I loved it. My only complaint was it feels like maybe some of the fantasy elements got a little outta hand and seemingly unnecessary, but I still loved.

This book has: queer romance, BIPOC rep, thoughtful themes of colonialism, fun banter

Weavingshaw

📖 Book 1 in the incomplete Weavingshaw trilogy
🐉 Romantic fantasy
❤️ No spice yet…
🎧 Solo narrated audiobook

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 (my full review)

My Thoughts: I LOVED THIS. This has realllly cool political themes and a super delicious romantic subplot. She can see ghosts and it’s her form of currency with the Saint of Silence, and their dynamic is deeeelicious.

This book has: ghosts, demons, gothic setting, smart FMC, super reluctant allies

This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me

📖 book 1 in the incomplete Maggie the Undying trilogy
🐉 Romantic fantasy
❤️ No spice yet…
🎧 solo narrated audiobook

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 6!!! (my full review)

My Thoughts: GUYS I FUCKING LOVED THIS. THIS MIGHT BE MY FAVE THING I READ ALL YEAR. Oh my GOD. I read it, then immediately reread it and I genuinely have had to stop myself from doing a 3rd read. I need more of this trilogy stat I will probably read it 2 more times before book 2 comes out and I’m not even being dramatic.

This book has: big world building, lovable characters across the board, a romantic subplot that has me GIGGLING that’s slow burrrrnin’, genuinely funny, amazing twists, I can’t get enough

Godsbane

📖 Book 1 in an incomplete duology?? I think??
🐉 Romantasy
❤️‍🔥 Has spice
🎧 Duet audiobook
☑️ On Kindle Unlimited

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 3.25 (my full review)

My Thoughts: I do not think this was bad but I do think it wasn’t necessarily unique and felt a little rushed, so I had a hard time really becoming invested in characters. I almost think this would have benefitted from being a trilogy vs. a duology. But the audiobook is VERY well done so if this sounds interesting to you, def give the audio a try!

This book has: gods vs. humans, pathetic down obsessed MMC

Choosing Theo

📘 Book 1 in Clecanian series of interconnected standalones
👽 Alien romance
❤️‍🔥 Has spice
🎧 Solo audiobook
☑️ On Kindle Unlimited

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 (my full review)

My Thoughts: This should not have been as goddamn fun as it was yet here I am, now an alien romance girly it seems. This is just a Romance through and through and SUUUUPER for the women to feel cherished. It was so fun.

This book has: alien abduction, husband school, “run” scene, matriarchy

Because I Killed Him

📖 book 1 in the incomplete The Nine Gentlemen series (5 books)
🐉 Romantic dystopian
❤️ No spice yet…
☑️ On Kindle Unlimited

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.5 (my full review)

My Thoughts: This was SUUUUPER unique, I have never read anything quite like it and I really enjoy the world and politics that are being built here. There’s also a man with some raaaaather swoony monents and I’m hoping for more of that as the series progresses. I had some minor complaints about how some things unfolded around the end, but certainly not enough to stop me from reading and enjoying.

This book has: 1920s x Blade Runner with fencing, swoony MMC, super unique world, caste system
