I literally just finished an ARC for Tempest, book 1, and I ATE. IT. UP. Ohhh the Pirates of the Caribbean-ish setting with the dual timeline?! It was everything for me. But don’t worry this is in no way a copy/paste of POTC in my opinion. It goes on a very different journey even if you’re vibing the Pirates vibe.
The first quarter or so of the book is big world building and establishment of the politics/etc., but man oh man I was SAILING (pun intended) through this.

Why Read Tempest, book 1 in The Lyrian Sea duology?
Because you like:
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Stories told in dual timelines (which create excruciating yearning)
- Interesting politics
- Descriptive writing that makes the setting so vivid
- Betrayals and not knowing who you can actually trust
- A complex FMC and dynamic male leads as well
What is the The Lyrian Sea duology about?
Cat is a former lady with a past trying to simply escape the war headed to the islands she lives on when she’s summoned & jailed, ready to be hanged. She’s given an opportunity to escape death — & this place — only if she goes with the man who turned on her in the first place, to find the leader of the pirates.
This duology has: murder mystery, political intrigue (Roman Empire influence), female rage, MORALLY GRAY zap daddy, critiques of capitalism and the justice system and our political system and honestly a lot.
