This is that moody, beautiful story that is perfect for the gothic romantic fantasy lovers. It is exactly what I wanted when I read it and it is genuinely so good.
This story is such a good character journey between our two leads. You kind of can’t help but fall in love with them and just, deeply understand them. And then something happens and I was like “WHOA WHAT?!” – genuinely surprising me in the absolute best way – and it has me SO SO sat for the rest of this series.
Why Read the Curse of the Fates Series?
Here are a few reasons I think you should read this romantic fantasy series, starting with The Washwoman at the River’s End:
- Really unique premise and story
- Pulled from Scottish lore with Gaelic influence
- Really lovely character journey for our two main characters, I really enjoyed this aspect and so much of this book felt so tender, even when tensions were high.

What is the The Washwoman at the River’s Edge – Book 1 in The Curse of the Fates series – About?
Bea is cursed and chained to the shore of this river, to wash the souls of people as they flow through and head into the afterlife. Brennen has been sent by one of the Fates who cursed her to keep an eye on her and figure out how to kill her, because women have been disappearing and the people think it’s the Washwoman. Why? Well, because she escaped a few years ago and went on a murderous rampage. And one of the victims of said rampage was Brennen’s fiancé. So he’s not ready to be around her, but is ready to figure out how to end her.
